How can I sign my child up?

To sign up to Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, please email join@portishead-scouts.org

How soon can my child join?

Waiting times vary between sections, and depend very much on how many children there are compared to volunteers. Children move from Beavers to Cubs, and Cubs to Scouts when they reach the required ages, so spaces only become available when children move up, or leave Scouting completely.

We can help more children get off waiting lists and into Scouting faster – but only with the help of more volunteers. Volunteering is fun, can be done at times to suit you. It doesn’t require any special experience or knowledge either. All we’re looking for is enthusiasm and energy – and in return, you’ll be helping your child and others benefit from everything Scouting has to offer.

Can I volunteer to help?

Yes! We’d love to hear from you. Whether you can offer a few hours each month or are desperate to run your own group every week, we would greatly value your help. Everyone has unique skills to bring and share with our young people, and you don’t need any specialist experience to become a volunteer. Please email our Group Scout Leader on gsl@portishead-scouts.org

Where do the individual badges go?

You can find the positions of all the badges – including the very latest additions – on the following pages of the Scouts website:

How much does it cost?

We ask for a contribution of £14 a month (with subsequent children benefitting from a sibling discount), which covers a wide range of experiences, as well as paying for the badges children earn through their activities. Occasionally additional charges are made for special activities, such as sleepovers, trips or events needing bought-in expertise or equipment.

Our focus is to provide as many experiences to as many children as we can, regardless of their circumstances, so our Leaders are always available to talk should you need support to fund your child through any one of our groups of activities.

Can I hire the Scout hut for my own event or activity?

The Scout hut is no longer available for hire.

What can my child do after they leave Scouts?

You can find out more about what Scouts has to offer for young people aged 14 to 25 on the national Scouts website.
